Annual meeting

MERSEYSIDE Police Authority will be holding its 23rd Annual Meeting on June 26 2008.

Members will be asked to appoint a Chairman to lead them through 2008/09.

Committee and sub committee membership, along with Chairs, will also be decided upon as the Authority agrees its work schedule for the coming year.

Members will also be appointed to outside bodies such as the Association of Police Authorities and Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships.

Current Chairman of the Authority, Bill Weightman said:

'It has been a challenging year for policing in Merseyside, and I am proud to say we have faced those challenges head on. Despite being dealt a blow with a disappointing budget settlement, we have been able to announce investment of over £3.1M into the future of policing on Merseyside. This was made possible due to a series of factors including nearly £2.6M of savings identified by Merseyside Police Authority in partnership with the force.

We have also enjoyed a reduction in crime this year. This is clear evidence that we and our partners are working together to create a better and safer Merseyside. With an extra 100 officers due in the coming months we expect to see crime continue to fall. Our success could not have been achieved without involving local people, and community consultation will remain as an indispensable foundation to our plans for the future.'
