Cllr Weightman chairman for 2008/09

Merseyside Police Authority has elected Cllr Bill Weightman as its Chairman for a fifth year.

The decision was made by members of Merseyside Police Authority at today's Annual Meeting.

Cllr Bill Weightman said:

"Over the past four years Merseyside has seen an increase in police officer numbers and a substantial reduction in crime. In addition to this, Merseyside Police Authority has made significant improvements to the way it works with partners to create a better and safer Merseyside. As Chairman, I'm delighted to take on the challenge of building on these successes by listening to our communities, focussing on our priorities, and putting victims, witnesses and law-abiding citizens at the heart of everything we do."
