Disabled People
The Police Authority always ensures that a full accessibility
audit is carried out before any consultation event takes place and
we strive to offer any necessary support requested from attendees
such as signers or a loop system. Whilst this is standard practice
at every event so that everyone who wants to come along can attend,
we recognise the importance of speaking specifically to those
people with disabilities so that we can gain an understanding of
what their policing priorities are. Our commitment to ensuring the
disabled community has equal access to all of our services is laid
out in the Authority's
Disability Equality Scheme.
What have we done?
The Authority, in conjunction with Merseyside Disability
Federation, held a series of focus groups covering St Helens,
Wirral, Sefton, Knowsley and Liverpool (pictured). The focus groups
gave members of the disabled community an opportunity to come along
and speak about their policing concerns in a safe, supported and
accessible environment.
Members and officers of the Authority, alongside various
departments from the police service, recently visited the Wirral
branch of the Stroke Association to ask them about their policing
priorities. We ran two events on the 6th and 11th May 2009. You can
see the results of these events by clicking on
Stroke Association Results 2009.
