Merseyside Police Authority publishes plans for a new Wirral Area Command Centre
PUBLIC CONSULTATION FOR WIRRAL AREA COMMAND CENTRE
Merseyside Police Authority (MPA) is to meet with
members of the public to hear their views on a proposed new Wirral
Area Command Centre in Birkenhead.
MPA owns and is responsible for all police buildings across
Merseyside. Many of these buildings are no longer fit for the
purpose for which they were built. We understand the importance of
having accessible police stations and the best use of resources and
it is for this reason that we plan to build an Area Command Centre
in Birkenhead.
Merseyside has changed a lot over the years and so has policing.
Now our buildings and facilities must change to support
Neighbourhood Policing and provide the best possible service across
Merseyside.
On the Wirral, Laird Street and Birkenhead Police Stations have
been identified as being no longer fit for purpose. The Area
Command Centre is proposed to replace those police stations and
improve on the service that Merseyside Police gives the whole of
Wirral, whilst retaining a neighbourhood presence in the Birkenhead
area.
Cllr Bill Weightman, chair of Merseyside Police Authority said:
"We are keen to hear the views of the public on these
plans." For more information about the plans, the public are
invited to come along to the following events:
