Merseyside Police Authority appoints new Deputy
Bernard Lawson has been named as the new Deputy Chief Constable of Merseyside Police.
Mr Lawson, who until this week was the Acting Deputy, replaces Jon Murphy. Mr Murphy moved on earlier this year to take up a national role with the Association of Chief Police Officers.
Mr Lawson has served with Merseyside Police Service for over 23 years having most recently held the portfolio for Personnel and Professional Standards.
Mr Lawson was today delighted at the news of his appointment. He said:
"I am very proud and privileged to accept this post. I joined Merseyside Police in the early 1980s and have seen great changes and improvements to our policing services to our communities. I intend to work my hardest in continuing to deliver the best possible service."
Chair of Merseyside Police Authority, Cllr Bill Weightman, said:
"The role of Deputy Chief Constable is a crucial and challenging role. I'm pleased to say that authority members have chosen a candidate who's already proven he's more than up to the job. On behalf of the police
authority, I'd like to wish Bernard Lawson my sincere congratulations on his new post. Mr Lawson will be responsible for supporting the Chief Constable in making sure that Merseyside Police offers the best possible service to the people of Merseyside. I'm sure he'll continue to do a fantastic job."
