Diversity

Merseyside Police Authority is committed to valuing diversity: promoting and implementing equality of opportunity in all its activities.

We recognise we can reduce the disadvantages experienced by many people by making all aspects of our work more responsive to the different and various individual and community needs. We value the diversity of Merseyside and want to provide services that are accessible, relevant and meaningful to everyone.

We will work towards an environment and culture where everyone is receiving an equality of service regardless of gender, race, ethnic origin, disability, age, actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, nationality, religion, belief or any other individual characteristics which may impact upon a person's opportunities in life.

The progress of our equality and diversity agenda is a process, which should be evidenced by clear links between our documentation such as Merseyside Police Authority and Merseyside Police's Race Equality Scheme, Disability Equality Scheme and Gender Equality Scheme and other general programmes of social influence highlighted in, for example, the Children's Act and obligations within the 'Every Child Matters' activities.

In brief, we believe valuing and managing diversity is about recognising and appreciating individual needs and differences and treating everyone with dignity and respect.

This commitment is underpinned by the relevant legislation, including EU Directives and the Human Rights Act 1998, together with other equality legislation.
